Tourist attraction Waterworld is opening Stoke-on-Trent’s first indoor adventure golf course.

Owner Mo Chaudry has revealed the plans after snapping up Birmingham-based leisure business Adventure Island Mini Golf as part of a £20 million investment.

The entrepreneur is planning to open 20 golf centres across the country in the next five years – with the next one at his Festival Park waterpark.

It is set to open alongside a new trampoline centre at the complex next year.

Mo bought Waterworld for £1.5 million in 1999. It now employs 140 people and attracts more than 400,000 visitors every year. Plans have just been approved for an expansion which will house the golf centre and trampoline park as well as his M Club gym and spa which will move from Festival Heights.

The developments should create an extra 200 jobs and an additional 350,000 visitors to the bigger and better leisure complex every year.

Mo said: “There will be 36 holes at the course – two 18-hole courses – and we are hoping it will be very popular in Stoke-on-Trent. It will be a similar standard to the Birmingham facility and will provide something for the whole family.

“It is great news for Waterworld Group and also Stoke-on-Trent. I’m hoping the complex can become a leisure hub and the new link road from the Asda roundabout to Festival Park will create easy access and 600 new parking spaces.

“I am aiming to be open by this time next year and it’s all hands on deck now. It is good news for the city and will hopefully bring people in from outside Stoke-on-Trent.”

Businessman John Whitehead founded Adventure Mini Golf nine years ago. It has one course in Star City, Birmingham, which has two 18-hole crazy golf courses over three levels.

John said: “We have had an incredibly successful time over the last nine years launching and operating Adventure Island Mini Golf and making it one of the most successful destination leisure attractions in the Midlands. The time is now right to expand and develop the brand further and working with Mo Chaudry and the Waterworld Group will allow us to realize the full potential of this fun and exciting concept nationwide.”

Families cannot wait for the adventure golf course to open – to stop them having to travel to similar venues in Liverpool, Manchester and Birmingham.

The Birmingham attraction is currently open from 10.30am to 11pm Sunday to Thursday and 10.30am to midnight on Fridays and Saturdays.
