$4 million ‘boutique bowling’ center planned for Conway

A new family fun business billed as an upscale boutique bowling and entertainment center is just what the residents of Conway need.

So reasoned the Conway Chamber of Commerce, which actively lobbied the owner of a similar North Myrtle Beach center to expand his business in the River City, rather than across the border into North Carolina.

If the Conway City Council approves the plans for the new $4 million center on the corner of U.S. 501 and Allied Drive across from the Coastal Carolina Campus, the center is expected to begin operations by early 2018, said Devin Parks, director of economic development and government relations for the chamber.

The name of the center 810 Conway — a take on 8 ball billiards and 10 pin bowling, says owner Mike Siniscalchi.

A host of other activities throughout the premises would include bocce, ping-pong, darts, shuffleboard, skeeball, basketball, air hockey and board games.

An indoor and outdoor bar would offer craft beers as well as cocktails, and a brick oven to bake pizzas, Siniscalchi said.

With the location and offerings, Parks said they expect the center will draw students from CCU as well as families looking for a wholesome evening out without having to drive all the way to the beach.

“There was a lot of leaking — Conway residents who leave the area and spend money elsewhere,” Parks said.

“That was one of the larger gaps we noticed, and based on feedback from the community and data we collected, we decided that a family entertainment business would be the best fit,” Parks said. “It was clear cut that this was a business that would thrive in Conway.”

The facility would be similar to Siniscalchi’s other family entertainment and bowling center, 710 North Myrtle Beach.

The property just outside the Conway city limits was purchased on Oct. 3 and annexation as well as rezoning has already been approved by the Conway planning commission.

The full council will consider the center at its Oct. 16 meeting.

“As soon as he gets the green light from the city council, he’s going to start clearing (the lot). He’s ready to roll,” Parks said.

The center will be about four miles south of downtown Conway, on a vacant lot near the CresCom bank.
