1 dead at southeastern Travis County wakeboard park, EMS says
A man estimated to be in his 60s died at Quest ATX, a water park in southeastern Travis County, on Tuesday afternoon, Austin-Travis County EMS officials said.
Medics responded to the park at 10815 FM 1625 around 2:40 p.m., EMS officials said. The incident was reported as a possible drowning, but officials have not yet determined the man’s cause of death.
Quest ATX is a cable-based wakeboard park that also offers stand-up paddleboarding, kayaking and mountain biking activities. Quest plans to open for the season in April, when it plans to debut its new water obstacle course.
Three contractors were working around the floating recreation area when one of them slumped over and went into the water, said Kristen Dark, a spokeswoman with the Travis County sheriff’s office. It is unknown why the man fell, Dark said.
The other two workers partially pulled him out of the water and one of them performed CPR on the victim, but he was pronounced dead about 3:19 p.m., Dark said.
There was no indication of foul play, Dark said.
The man who performed CPR on the victim was taken to Seton Medical Center Hays in Kyle with medical complaints, according to EMS Capt. Darren Noak.
Quest ATX management did not respond to requests for comment.
