Bowling, laser tag, casual dining center on tap for Pasco’s Cypress Creek
LUTZ — Main Event Entertainment, a bowling, laser tag and casual dining center, is considering the Cypress Creek Town Center in southern Pasco County for its first Tampa Bay area location.
Representatives of Kimley-Horn Associates, the engineering and land-planning firm for other portions of the Town Center, have filed preliminary plans with Pasco County for a 50,000-square-foot “Main Event-Wesley Chapel’’ with 322 parking spaces.
The location is southwest of the Interstate 75 and State Road 56 interchange, east of the Tampa Premium Outlets mall on land owned by the Sierra family’s Pasco Ranch Inc.
Robert Sierra, chairman and chief executive officer of Sierra Properties, declined comment.
The Dallas-based Main Event Entertainment began 20 years ago and has put its indoor family fun centers in 39 locations, including Jacksonville and Orlando. The company has four centers under construction and “several more in the pipeline for 2018-19’’ in the East, Midwest and South, according to its company Web site.
A competitor of Dave & Buster’s, which opened its first Bay-area location in Brandon in October, the typical Main Event Entertainment center has 22 bowling lanes, more than 100 arcade games, billiards, rock climbing, gravity ropes, mini-golf, multi-level laser tag, and a restaurant and bar.
Central Pasco has been without a bowling alley since the former Royal Lanes on Brinson Road in Lutz shut down a year ago. Losing a traditional facility like Royal Lanes, but potentially adding Main Event Entertainment, is indicative of the shift within the bowling industry. Income from weekly league play has diminished, and customers expect greater entertainment options to fill their family’s leisure time.
In Pasco, the nearest bowling center to Cypress Creek Town Center is Pin Chasers, located 17 miles away on Gall Boulevard in Zephyrhills. Xtreme Adventures on State Road 54 in Lutz features laser tag and other entertainment, but no bowling lanes.
Entertainment isn’t the only activity at the Cypress Creek retail hub. West of the Tampa Premiums Outlet mall, a corporate affiliate of Texas-based At Home closed on the purchase of 17.3 acres for $7.25 million in March. County records previously showed the company building a nearly 110,000-square-foot At Home decor superstore on the site at 2016 Grand Cypress Drive, The land, west of the Costco store, formerly was owned by JG Cypress Creek, the local affiliate of the Richard E. Jacobs Group of Cleveland.
Across SR 56, on the north portion of the Cypress Creek Town Center, work is beginning on a so-called power center of retailers scheduled to hold four anchor tenants and smaller stores. Pasco County records show the builder, Berry Construction Co. of Chattanooga, Tenn., recently applied for building permits for:
• A 40,146-square-foot Burlington Coat Factory store.
• A 24,436-square-foot Earth Fare grocery.
• A 20,000-square-foot Home Goods store.
• Two shell buildings, totaling 52,000 square feet, that do not identify tenants.
Additionally, an April 2017 application for a 89,995-square-foot store for Dick’s Sporting Goods is listed as in “final reviews,’’ according to the county website. Likewise, a permit application from almost a year ago, for a nearly 9,000-square-foot Five Below store, is still listed as “pending client,’’ according to county records.
All tenants should be open for business in the first quarter of 2019, Sierra said.
